David Parra Luna

David Parra is a naturalized American of Mexican descent who came to the United States at age 12, as a result of his father’s participation in the Bracero Program in the 1950s. David grew up in East Los Angeles, where, after graduating from high school, he finished a two-year program on Computer Operations and Programming. Following this he completed a two-year Bible School program in Anaheim, California. For 15 years, David worked in Christian ministry as church leader, translator, interpreter, and speaker. In this capacity, he traveled to four Central American countries, Mexico, and several states in the U.S. In 2003, David (with his wife and three children) moved to Arizona and began to work for AARP, where he has held the titles of Program Assistant, Program Coordinator, Program Specialist, and currently Associate State Director for Multicultural Outreach, with emphasis on Hispanics/Latinos. At AARP, David has taken ongoing trainings on volunteer management, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Long Term Care, Caregiving, Financial Security, Consumer Protection, the legislative process, and other topics. In his current role, David is producer and host of the AARP Arizona Hispanic Connection, a radio and social media platform (Facebook and YouTube), which seeks to educate on the aforementioned issues, celebrate Latino accomplishments, and connect Hispanics of all generations.
