Steven Alvarez

Born in 1968, in Santa Ana, Ca. Raised in Tolleson, Arizona since 1969. Father of two daughters and one son, grandfather of one girl. Employed by the City of Phoenix since 1999. Attended Tolleson Elementary from kinder to 12th. Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix in 2016 at the age of 48. Grandparents and mom were from Tolleson, Arizona. Mom attended Prendergast Elementary in the 40’s and Tolleson Union High in the 50’s. I’m proud to call Tolleson my hometown and hope to seek a council seat in the near future. My professional career includes working with Chicano’s Por La Causa as a youth counselor in the early 90’s and the City of Phoenix within the Young Fathers Program, Head Start program, Landlord Tenant Counselor, and currently as a Code Enforcement Officer with Neighborhood Services. My hobbies include restoring my 41 Chevy that was once owned by my uncle. I also enjoy golf and watching my Las Vegas Raiders. I have visited the temples of Tulum and Chichen Itza. I experienced a spiritual awakening that added to my real-life experiences and passion to learn more about my cultural and ancestors. I was a young teen father and did not finish my high school education. However, I like to tell people that I am a college graduate with a G.E.D. I hope my journey inspires people not give up on their dreams regardless of their age or circumstances. I’m a proud Mexican American/Chicano. I am also proud of those who came before me, my family, my children, my experiences, my education, and my cultura.
